Jewelry Care
While we design and make our pieces to last, they still need to be handled with love and care. Here are some helpful tips to keep them looking like the day you got them.
- Do not wear your jewelry during strenuous activity (ie, working out, sports, swimming, gardening, etc). This could result in a lot of damage to the metal and stones as well as possibility inflicting bodily harm.
- Put on your jewelry after applying lotions, creams, hand sanitizers, perfumes and etc. These substances can cause build up and in cases of certain stones, cause damage.
- Avoid harsh chemicals. Do not wear your jewelry while cleaning or swimming especially. Some of these chemicals such as chlorine or bleach will react with the alloyed metals that are mixed with the gold and “leach” them out, leaving microscopic bubbles (porosity). This will cause the metal to become weak and brittle and will eventually just “break apart” in your hands. Some chemicals will also permanently “stain” the metal. These chemicals can damage stones.
- Your jewelry will naturally develop buildup of gunk from daily wear. To keep your stones looking bright and full of luster, clean them using a soft toothbrush and any kind of mild, grease cutting soap. For a deeper clean, use jewelry cleaners and follow the instructions exactly. Do not over soak (leave the pieces in there for hours to days on end). This will have the same effect as using harsh chemicals. Another option is taking them to your local jeweler.
- Oxidation (discoloration) of the metal after long periods of not being worn is normal. Spiff them up by polishing them with a soft jewelry polishing cloth.
